Trees for Transition - Working woodlands for a sustainable future

Orchards

Crab applesFruit and nut orchards are part of our heritage and can play an increasingly important part in local food initiatives. They can be planted and tended on a scale easily accessible to ordinary people. They can also provide a focus for community activities and wildlife. Common Ground have championed orchards and founded Apple Day in 1990, now a national institution.

Common Ground have published the 2nd edition of their fabulous Community Orchards Handbook.

The apple has been celebrated in the brilliant musical show Fruit of Paradise.
